2430BDLocality Blyde wildlife estate entrance Latitude, longitude -24.398436111111, 30.806605555556 [0 m accuracy] Date 2013/11/30 Notes Vm 6971 revisited. 2 groups of 43 & 22 nests in upper branches of fever trees, on island & dam wall respectively. Colony become significantly large & active. 3/4km from Otto colony which seems to be decreasing after major tree collapsed. Maybe relocated birds. Large numbers of weavers eating from a large white ant colony besides the dam. Time of visit 17h49, Overcast, recent rains, many flying ant hatches. Nest count 65 Nest site tree

Have seen/recorded that these weavers may restore old nests. Village &
LMW also in surrounding trees.
nests: 4 old around pond. 7308 803 21/10/2013 0 Multi species colony. Previous reports for Spectacled and Lesser Masked from this site (Vm 6970/1). Rained last night. Immediate reaction from birds as colony inspected 2 days ago. New, almost complete Southern Masked Weaver and 7 Village Weaver rings & one completed nest structure. Village Weaver already performing nest display. No sign of other species yet. 7586 791 30/11/2013 4 Revisited Vm 6970. 2 groups of 2 nests in lower branches of fever trees, over water & bulrushes. currently seem 'not used' Birds heard in vicinity. Looked for newer nests unsuccessfully.
