797, Village Weaver Ploceus cucullatus (see species summary here)Record status ACCEPTED Vm 9074 [on-line data upload (2014-03-05): 70996] Species Village Weaver Observer(s) Cohen, Callan Country, town, locus Tanzania, , Butiama,
0234AALocality Serengeti National Park, near Grumeti River Latitude, longitude -2.166703, 34.141859 [1000 m accuracy] Date 2013/4/30 Notes There were at least 5 Village Weaver nests suspended on some branches coming out of the bases of a giant Martial Eagle nest. Although I found a pair of Martial Eagles mating on this nest a year earlier, and they were again in the vicinity, I was quite surprised by the contents of the nest. I initially took the huddled down shape in the nest to be a juvenile Martial, but later when it lifted itself up, it was clearly an adult Ruppell's Griffon. It sat on the nest for at least two hours, both sitting tightly, and standing up. There is no direct evidence of nesting. Nest count 5 Nest site tree
