(1+1+2) Previously know that each male establishes a small spatial territory between neighbours and then builds one or more nests. (see Vm 1956 where 30, but up to 37 individual nests recorded in this bulrush thicket). Thick-bills became obvious & started nesting coincided with grass being mowed in large adjoining pastures, but also rains had started and flying ant now abound. Not sure which was the critical variable. Nest count 0 Nest site reed

Thickbills have been totally absent from this area - seen once in winter & recorded 4 or 5x nearby during National Bird count day 25 Nov. Been away 2 weeks, returned to find one completed nest with eggs and another half built. 2 nests (last counted 30 completed & used nests vm1956)
