2430BDLocality lower dam bulrushes, Otto, Blyde Latitude, longitude -24.404047222222, 30.810136111111 [0 m accuracy] Date 2013/11/28 Notes 4+ or more nests in tall bulrushes. Rains started. Flying ants this morning & most evenings. 2 pairs of Red-bishops nesting within 20x20m area - present for last month. numerous 'trial' nests. Thick-bill starting nest amongst them. Large adjacent grassland pasture mowed on 2013-11-23. Many grassland birds now seeking refuge in these dense bulrushes. Cannot say whether these birds were nesting elsewhere but are now forced to relocate to bulrush and grass thickets.
Red-billed Quelea, bronze mannikens, purple indigobirds, pin-tailed whydahs, long-tailed paradise whydahs, red-collared & many white winged widowbirds now all seeking refuge in the bulrushes and long, uncut grass around the dams and other fields. Others species maybe still in moult. shall update. Nest count 0 Nest site reed
