NotesAbout 40 to 50 males seen thinly spread amongst the palm trees. Few females. Hectic chasing each other around or displaying next to or under nest. As suspected, birds feeding on 'kentucky or finger licking' fast food rubbish from very populated terminal. Komati river & huge reedbeds 500m away. Nests not counted but new ones seen. Trees are very easy to see in the Google pic. The nests range from 25'26'47.40"S & 31'58'13.35"E to 25'26'46.10:S & 31'58'16.27"E Looking at my 'marker' I gave you the middle location - where there is actually 'nothing' - just parking - next to the palm trees.

647679220/7/20134387 tall palm trees along N4 entrance to busy & very noisy border garage & retail parking. (Komati Oasis) either side of this group of 8 palms were others also will nests. No other trees in parking area but landscaped gardens with fever trees and other large trees within 50m - but with no nests. Colony reported to me 25th May when there were 'hundreds of birds & nests' - hence my visit. No birds seen over 2 days. nests: av 2 counts +- 438 nests. Comment: 1. many nests were bundles, like grapes, many doubles, tripples etc. Counted each complete nest. all unoccupied. central 5 trees contained most nests. Comment 2. searched area for other concentrations. Found another in town - report follows.

87227922/2/20140VM 7108 revisited. Many palms at edge of parking & bordering N4 motorway festooned with nests - minor satellite colonies on western palms seem to have no nests now. Active colony, relatively few birds seen, male female ratios almost even yet displacing, chasing and mating behaviour still observed.
