2430BDLocality Wildlife Estate, Hoedspruit Latitude, longitude -24.348888888889, 30.95875 [0 m accuracy] Date 2012/12/22 Notes Revisted 3088 & 3099. mixed colony of village & lesser masked weavers. Decimated colony. 4 active weavers seen in trees. No new rings or green nests. 2nd pic - was 65 nests now 25/6 of which 15/16 look viable(down from 65 plus). 1st pic 37/38 nests of which 20 odd look viable. (down from 71). The Red Headed weaver nest reported (vm 3093) at the bottom of the 2nd pic tree is barely recognisable.
Spoke to guards about demise of colony. Snakes. No old nests on ground but it is a garden, so probably cleared up. Note: these snakes could easily reach the Hotel school pub colony (vm3692) a mere 80m away. Considering rapid re-growth of 3692 colony - birds probably moved away from this large colony due to predation. Nest count 0 Nest site tree
