Note: repeats from the same day are not shown.vm Species code Date Nests Notes 3473 804 21/10/2012 8 mixed colony of cape & thickbill weavers in tall reeds in dam. eggs found & photographed. birds in attendance. note - re-use of old nest (2 eggs) - remnants of others and new nests being built or completed. 3-4 males seen. females seen probably about 8 or 9 nests (reeds very thick). Egg is 1 of 3 from a Thickbilled weaver nest. Other nests had almost white thickbill weaver eggs 3689 803 23/10/2012 0 lots of breeding sthn masked weavers in these reeds and around but only 2 isolated/single obvious nests found in trees at waters edge. presume rest are in the reeds mixed up together with cape weavers.
3688 804 24/10/2012 0 variations of nests - different shapes, many much larger and some open, many with new/green entrances added onto old nests. Presume these open nests were used to shelter from the highveldt winters. Thickbilled weavers nests all mixed up with many cape weaver nests see bottom of pic with tall reeds - these are reeds that were not burnt so presume that the nests survived and being reused.
