My first sighting of "Masked" Weavers in this area. 2804 803 29/8/2012 6 6 nests including 1 green. Beautiful yellow and black male was keeping a distance from me while female was also waiting a few meters away.
Repeat count. 3293 803 14/10/2012 11 This colony has expanded to 11 nests. No birds were observed during this visit. It was extremely difficult to photograph the nests as the site has become overgrown with lush growing reeds. I did not wear appropriate footwear for the muddy conditions. 6241 803 14/7/2013 5 5 nests in total, 1 green. Nests smaller & rounder on same spot as previous year. My last visit 3 weeks ago showed zero nests on this spot. Could not photograph bird. 6295 803 16/7/2013 5 5 nests plus one with only a grass ring as per photo.
I managed a picture of the nest builder. 6689 803 31/7/2013 7 7 and one half built abandoned nest. This is the only active Southern Masked Weaver colony in the wetland that I am aware of. I did not see the birds this time.
