19/9 - tree full of lesser masked weaver males all actively feeding off weeping boer bean flowers(Schotia brachypetala) which are dripping
nectar - and attending to nests. No other species noted. At least 20 active males seen but no females in view for 30minutes i stayed.
Impossible to count nests but shall get estimate later this week. Nest count 0 Nest site tree

(see Mv1613 2/12/2012); returned a couple of times to find only LMWeavers & house sparrows/mynas. Maybe too early in the season? Still cannot count or differentiate nests as the tree is too dense and the nests are too bunched & totally chaotic 5135 792 22/1/2013 0 still active colony but reduced number of birds overall amongst nests. Some new green nests and feeding chicks obvious. Males still displaying etc. Nests are tatty and uncountable because of storm damage. 6972 792 9/8/2013 0 Vm 5135 revisited. Weeping boerboom over cafe.
Comments: Tree & colony suffered severe cutbacks. No birds seen at location.
Monitoring as one of 6 possible/alternative sites for BBC production.
No new nests seen.
nests not counted 8111 792 21/12/2013 42 Colony remains small after drastic tree cut-back. Suspect many now moved to Blyde wildlife estate colony which has shown dramatic growth this season.
