vmSpecies codeDateNestsNotes
16137922/12/201103 different weavers, most nests facing west. 76 av nests of (797) village,(792) lesser masked, (793) red headed, (791)spectacled weavers outside cafe
195379219/2/20120site revisited - lesser masked weaver at base of huge colony - nests too numerous to count
295579217/9/20120revisited Blyde Cafe weaver nest site - took benchmark pics for future comparisons. no birds in attendance. myna & sparrows visible. note flowers.
297879219/9/20120update to Blyde colony - sent you updates on monday - no birds were seen at about 9h00. newer nests puzzled me so returned at 15h30 on 19/9 - tree full of lesser masked weaver males all actively feeding off weeping boer bean flowers(Schotia brachypetala) which are dripping nectar - and attending to nests. No other species noted. At least 20 active males seen but no females in view for 30minutes i stayed. Impossible to count nests but shall get estimate later this week.
31327924/10/20120original record indicated many different species - obviously eating the boerbean flowers. (see Mv1613 2/12/2012); returned a couple of times to find only LMWeavers & house sparrows/mynas. Maybe too early in the season? Still cannot count or differentiate nests as the tree is too dense and the nests are too bunched & totally chaotic
513579222/1/20130still active colony but reduced number of birds overall amongst nests. Some new green nests and feeding chicks obvious. Males still displaying etc. Nests are tatty and uncountable because of storm damage.
69727929/8/20130Vm 5135 revisited. Weeping boerboom over cafe. Comments: Tree & colony suffered severe cutbacks. No birds seen at location. Monitoring as one of 6 possible/alternative sites for BBC production. No new nests seen. nests not counted
811179221/12/201342Colony remains small after drastic tree cut-back. Suspect many now moved to Blyde wildlife estate colony which has shown dramatic growth this season.
