48979915/8/20090This colony of Cape Weavers chose to build their nests on the wire supports below a water tank outside the administration office near the entrance to the West Coast National Park restricted area. The apparent reason for this is that the fynbos vegetation in this Sandveld region seldom grows above a metre off the ground and these birds prefer lofty nesting sites - hence the choice of the water tower. However, one lone weaver dared to be different - he built his nest on the wire fencing close by
