792, Lesser Masked Weaver Ploceus intermedius (see species summary here)Record status ACCEPTED Vm 18187 [on-line data upload (2015-10-29): 174116] Species Lesser masked weaver Observer(s) Zaloumis, Alex Country, town, locus South Africa, Limpopo, Hoedspruit,
2430BDLocality paint shop corner Latitude, longitude -24.349481, 30.957899 [0 m accuracy] Date 2015/10/27 Notes Location: growing colony in palm trees at corner 50m away from old hotel school colony.
Comment: this group of LMW & other weavers seems to have moved away from the large cluster initially recorded in large fever trees at the Hoedspruit Estate entrance, where it was destroyed by monkeys, snakes and raptor harassment. It seems to have expanded again from the old hotel school colony to PnPay parking area and now in-between where-ever palm trees are planted.
They have not colonised the avenue of large fever trees nearby. Preference for smallish palm over large fever trees is interesting.
The source of local & plentiful food is not 'obvious' as this is mostly office, parking and shop area.
Colony active but using old nests. No 'green' nests.
Nests not counted. Nest count 0 Nest site tree
