History of repeat colony counts
Note: repeats from the same day are not shown.vm Species code Date Nests Notes 13702 803 7/10/2014 1 First seen on 7 October, nest incomplete and only the male. No female appeared. On 10 October the nest had been added to. Still no female. Male hovered over a group of common starlings, then over a cape sparrow and then over a cape wagtail, all quite a distance from the nest. 14122 803 7/11/2014 1 The old nest is no longer there and the male is building a new one on the same branch 14369 803 20/11/2014 2 There were 2 birds present, the male and a female flew out of the nest. WHen I looked at the photo it seemed to have a white patch at the side of the beak. There are now 2 nests. 14407 803 1/12/2014 3 The male southern masked weaver has built another nest so now there are 3. He was sitting in the tree above the nests. There wasn't time to observe anymore as I had a visitor with me 17633 803 11/9/2015 4 This is the second year of nest building. The male and female were present, the female going in and out of the nest. I had also visited the nest on 9 September 17764 803 26/9/2015 4 small palm tree, colony at dawn 22050 803 11/11/2015 6 There are 6 nests now and I saw the female entering one of them which had been freshly made. I watched for about 30 minutes and she never came out of the nest so she must have been incubating 22051 803 21/6/2016 0 Sadly there are renovations taking place at the Castle of Good Hope and the water has been drained from the moat and all the plants have been removed from the bank as well as the palm tree where the masked weaver had nested last year. I wrote a letter to the CEO asking for reasons and this was his response 'We have been in c?onstant contestation with builders; you win some battles and you loose some...but I hope to win the war'. I had pleaded with another member of staff last year not to cut down the palm and had shown her where it was
