Oldest Yellow Weaver

Yellow Weaver Ploceus subaureus with ring BH19329 was recaptured on 11 March 2012 by Andrew Pickles at Umzumbe Floodplain (Railway site) in KwaZulu-Natal as an adult female. It had been ringed, also as an adult female, by Andrew on the same floodplain on 11 October 2003. Andrew also recaptured this bird at the same site on 6 December 2003. The elapsed time between ringing and most recent capture is 8 years 5 months, a new longevity record for the species. The previous record was 7 years 9 months 18 days (see news item here).
