Weaver news
Graham Grieve and Karin Nelson joined me for a few days of ringing in coastal Zululand. Being near Richards Bay gave an opportunity to talk about PHOWN at BirdLife Zululand in Richards Bay on 6 Feb. The following days were spent ringing at various sites, with bird club members joining the ringing sessions. See a trip report with photos and species totals caught here. Nearly 100 Yellow Weavers were caught, making it the top species for the trip (Right: adult male). For more ringing trips, see site map. After the ringing, the final 20th anniversary celebration was held at the KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Gardens (11 Feb), with talks on ADU projects, including SAFRING, and PHOWN - see news item. The trip was funded largely by Project for the Enhancement of Research Capacity (PERC, UCT). |
