Weaver ringing in southern Africa

The first weaver to be ringed in southern Africa was a Golden Weaver, in 1948 (Ashton 1952). SAFRING celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2008. Four weaver species are in the top 20 species ringed in southern Africa over 50 years, 1950 to 1999 (Oschadleus & Underhill 1999). The species are Red-billed Quelea, Southern Masked Weaver, Southern Red Bishop and Cape Weaver.
