vm Species code Date Nests Notes 5012 779 30/12/2012 5 New - Red billed buffalo weavers in radio tower alongside R36 near Ndlovumuzi turn off. 5 new nests (3 males in attendance/on guard). Nests not noticed last year in spite of being inspected for RH weaver nests. Nests contain chicks. Males constantly building or attending to nests, displaying, squabbling and vocalising. Males bringing food to nests. Very active colony. 5011 803 31/12/2012 26 New - Sthn. masked weavers. Location 17, 5 & 4 nests, mostly unattended, located in 3 hookthorn
trees surrounding a Radio tower mast site. Many small, similar colonies found in this area. seems masked weavers prefer small colonies located near seasonal water - local rains have been late this
year so maybe one of the reasons for new Sthn masked weaver nests only being built now. Nests - 26 7502 803 17/11/2013 3 Vm 5011/5615 revisited. 3 new, single nests in different trees surrounding the tower
perimeter. There were 26 nests in Dec 2012. Very late rains this season. First rains now started & flying ants swarming.
3 new nests counted. One in each tree. Males & females in attendance. The existing paired birds returned to same site. 8875 801 11/2/2014 1 Used to be lesser masked weavers in this tree. None this season. No birds seen.
