Latitude, longitude -26.1154464495814, 28.028998374939 [0 m accuracy] Date 2012/10/4 Notes The weaver colony in my garden started its nest building activity early this year - in June in the middle of winter, which surprised me. Initially there was only one nest then five more nests quickly followed until there were six being actively built on at the end of August. That number has now shrunk to only three. We had a big hail storm the other day and that might have knocked down the more flimsy nests. Alternatively, they demolised the nests themselves as being less than satisfactorily built. However, the three remaining nests are clearly the most robust ones. The weaver males, who are all related as far as I am aware, work on these nests interchangeably, which is interesting. They also seem to be carrying soft lawn cutting which they collect themselves to line their nests, no doubt to encourage the females to start egg laying. Nest count 3 Nest site tree
