First PHOWN record for Golden Palm-Weaver Ploceus bojeri

2011-11-18 (165)

The first PHOWN record of a Golden Palm-Weaver has been submitted (by Dominic Rollinson), see here. This species has a small global range, being found along the Kenyan coast, part of Tanzania's coast and SE Somalia. The male is a golden weaver with orange head and it breeds in trees, often palm trees, hence its name. Females are dull yellow. Although locally common in its range, there is no infomation on its incubation and nestling periods.

This is the first PHOWN record for Kenya, the country with the most weaver species at 60 species.
