PHOWN in National Botanical Gardens

Many South African National Botanical Gardens have weaver colonies in summer. Below is a list of gardens (with a link to the SANBI web site which provides lots of useful information for each garden), followed by links to the weaver colonies in the gardens (or in the relevant town, if no weaver colonies have been recorded yet). If you have weaver colony records from a National Botanical Garden, please submit to PHOWN!

Bloemfontein: Free State NBG - Southern Masked Weaver colonies may be viewed here.

Nieuwoudtville: Hantam NBG - Cape Weaver colonies may be viewed here.

Bettys Bay: Harold Porter NBG - no records currently; if recorded in the future they may be viewed here; Cape Weaver colonies present in Bettys Bay may be viewed here.

Worcester: Karoo Desert NBG - no colonies found on 8 Sep 2011; if recorded in the future they may be viewed here; many weaver colonies (of several species) present in Worcester, some of which may be viewed here.

Cape Town: Kirstenbosch NBG - no colonies present over the last 20 years, although some Cape Weaver colonies were present in the 1980s; if recorded in the future they may be viewed here.

Pietermaritzburg: KwaZulu-Natal NBG - several Village and Thick-billed Weaver colonies may be viewed here.

Nelspruit: Lowveld NBG - no records yet, although several weaver colonies should be present; if recorded in the future they may be viewed here, and some colonies present in Nelspruit may be viewed here.

Pretoria: Pretoria NBG - several Southern Masked Weaver and Thick-billed Weaver colonies may be viewed here.

Johannesburg: Walter Sisulu NBG - some Southern Masked Weaver colonies may be viewed here.
