Oldest Yellow Weaver

Yellow Weaver Ploceus subaureus with ring BH05488 was recaptured yesterday by Andrew Pickles at Umzumbe Floodplain in KwaZulu-Natal as an adult male. It had been ringed, also as an adult male, by Johan Snyman on the same floodplain on 6 December 2003. The elapsed time is 7 years 9 months 18 days, a new longevity record for the species. The previous record was 7y 0m 18d for weaver BB12219.
